Tax Credits and Allowances for Better Senior Care

In our previous post on Bathing Safety for Alzheimer’s patients, we highlighted that if granted, the T2201 Disability Tax Credit Certificate  could be but toward a safety bath tub purchase. This includes a range of disabilities not associated to Alzheimer’s disease.

We also gave an overview on the Home Applications for Senior Independence (HASI) program which allows seniors that meet the given criteria a forgivable loan to put toward applications to help them around their homes - including bathroom aids.

Similarly, bathroom aids are considered eligible medical expenses. If you are caring for a parent for instance, you can claim the eligible medical expenses you paid on behalf of a dependent parent, up to a maximum of $10,000 per dependent.

Renovation costs you incur to accommodate your parents will qualify as an eligible medical expense and can likely give you tax savings under the medical expense tax credit.

If you are a Veteran, you may be eligible for the Canadian Veterans Independence Program which can assist you with home adaptations that also include bathroom aids and modifications in kitchens and doorways.

To qualify you must meet ONE of the following criteria:

• You have qualified for a disability benefit
• You have qualified for the War Veterans Allowance
• You are in receipt of Prisoner of War Compensation
• You are eligible for but cannot access a Contract Bed or Priority Access Bed
• You have been the primary caregiver for an eligible veteran or civilian OR
• You are a low-cine or disabled survivor of an eligible Veteran of civilian

A simple call to your personal health insurance provider can help you assess whether you qualify for any of these tax credits or allowances toward home adaptions including bathroom aids.

Bathing Means Better Skincare

In our modern day-to-day lives, our skin comes into contact with a lot of different kinds of toxins. So when it comes to bathing, we should also keep in mind the idea of purifying the skin, rather than solely focus on hygiene and relaxation that bathing can provide.

With all the compounds we are exposed to in a day, the need to purify our skin is greater now more than ever. Some toxins found in skin include benzene, hydrocarbons, mold, car exhaust, heavy metals like mercury, arsenic, dust mites, pesticides, herbicides and hormones.

The toxic load we carry comes from a variety of sources in our environment – but bathing is a way to make sure that we rid of these toxins that can be present internally in our bodies and externally on the surface of our skin.

How do we make sure we are effectively purifying our skin?

• Take a 20-30 minute bath at home
• Get the water to a warm comfortable temperature to open your pores up
• Relax and turn on your water jets
• Use a entle soap along with a wash cloth or puff – this is an effective measure to begin purifying your skin.
• Begin cleaning your skin in linear strokes from the feet up – splash some water onto your skin as you scrub
• Rinse off in the shower

If you have a specific health condition, talking to your doctor could give you useful insight on other kinds of treatments or products with targeted medicinal properties. Whatever treatments you decide to go with, having a properly installed bath from Safety Bath will provide you with the basis for improving your well-being. With our wide variety of options and add-ons, you’re sure to find something that will enhance your bathing experience as well.

Escalating Demands for Safety Bathtubs

As more Baby Boomers reach retirement age, the demand for safety bathtubs is on the rise. After all, aches, pains and limited mobility all too often go along with advancing age. A walk-in tub can provide the perfect solution for people with limited mobility who want the freedom and independence that comes with being able to address personal hygiene needs safely and privately.
The uptick in demand for walk-in tubs also comes as more people of all ages are realizing the benefits these tubs can provide for enhancing safety in the home and enjoyment of the bath. These uniquely designed bathtubs offer two main categories of benefits that are making them a highly popular choice for users of all ages:

·         The safety benefits – First and foremost, walk-in tubs are designed to tackle some of the biggest safety concerns in the bathroom. In addition, their distinct design makes them much more accessible for people with mobility challenges. A walk-in tub is crafted to employ a swinging door that eliminates the need to step over a 20-inch bathtub side. As the name suggests, people can simply “walk in” to a tub instead of having to step over the side. In addition to getting rid of this common fall hazard, walk-in tubs also often feature seating and grab bars. Both can make the bathing and showering experience safer and more secure for people with limited mobility and/or balance-related concerns.
·         The therapeutic benefits –Depending on the model selected, walk-in bathtub designs can pack in a number of other features that transform an ordinary bath into a spa-quality one. Chroma-therapy, aromatherapy, whirlpool jets and even heated seating can combine to enable users to reduce stress, promote circulation, ease pain and lower blood pressure. The hydrotherapy benefits alone make this style of bathtub highly popular among users with and without mobility-related concerns.

As the benefits of walk-in bathtubs become more widely known, this upgrade to a traditional tub is in high demand. Whether the desire is to tackle mobility issues that may go along with age, address safety concerns or simply create a more relaxing bathroom experience, these tubs deliver benefits that anyone can appreciate.
